Dr. Darabi serves as Professor and Department Head of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering, as well as Professor of Occupational Safety, Environmental, and Occupational Health Sciences at the University of Illinois Chicago. 
Dr. Darabi, developed the first and only course focused on Artificial Intelligence in Occupational Safety and Health. Today, we’re here to explore why this four-week course is valuable for industry professionals who want to better understand the role and influence of AI in occupational safety and health systems.

In this episode of the Healthier Workplaces Show Podcast, we interview Connect 2026 Upton Sinclair Lecturer Georgia Gee.
Georgia is currently a researcher at The New York Times. Over the last five years, she has been based in New York and East Africa working on projects across print, digital, podcasts and documentaries. As a freelancer, work appeared in Foreign Policy, The Intercept, Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project and WIRED. She has been the recipient of grants from the Pulitzer Center and the Fund for Investigative Journalism.
Georgia spent a year investigating this horrific story of environmental racism and public health neglect. The lead was buried deep. She searched through thousands of documents, archival newspapers and travelled to East Gainesville, Florida to uncover how an elementary school sat on a toxic waste site, and how officials knew and never cleaned it up.
In today’s episode, we will discuss how she came across this story, the reporting process and challenges, including pushback from state agencies, and how in the U.S., this toxic site is not uncommon.

In this episode of the Healthier Workplaces Show Podcast, we interview industrial hygienist Pam Susi, MSPH, CIH. 
Pam has over 35 years of experience working as an industrial hygienist in multiple settings, including hospitals, schools, and manufacturing. She has worked in the construction industry both as a carpenter and as an industrial hygienist. She served as the Exposure Assessment Program Director for the Center for Construction Research and Training for 23 years. She was involved in efforts that led to changes in city regulations requiring the use of dust controls during construction work in Philadelphia. 
Today’s episode is part of our Luminary series. We’re going to talk about Pam’s 35-plus years in OEHS and learn about how the OEHS industry has changed since she started her career.

Christina has over two decades of experience in worker safety and health. Her areas of expertise include office and industrial ergonomics, industrial hygiene, government regulation compliance, safety and occupational health training, and workplace risk assessments. Christina has developed a unique skillset in her career, starting with safety, occupational health & environmental consulting, moving into safety management and leadership with the US Marine Corps, and for the last ten years as a risk engineer/risk consultant with large insurance carriers.  She works with clients in a wide range of industries to help identify and mitigate business and operational risks. 
Today, we’re here to learn more about Christina’s educational sessions, “The B.E.S.T. Leaders – Find Them, Keep Them, Be Them!” and “Overcoming Challenges of Bias and Stereotypes in OEHS.” Both educational sessions will be taking place at this year’s AIHA Connect 2026 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

In this episode of the Healthier Workplaces Show Podcast, we interview Industrial Hygienist Donna M. Doganiero, CIH.
Donna is a distinguished occupational and environmental health professional with a career spanning more than five decades in industrial hygiene. In 1981, she began a long, impactful career with the U.S. Army Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine, formerly the U.S. Army Environmental Hygiene Agency, advancing from field project officer to director of occupational health sciences. With the Army, she managed large, multidisciplinary programs in industrial hygiene, ergonomics, radiation safety, vector-borne diseases, and medical safety assessments during weapon system development. Donna served as the industrial hygiene consultant to the Army Office of the Surgeon General on technical and policy issues. 
Among her many honors, Donna received the Commander’s Award for Civil Service Excellence for her participation in the response to the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the Pentagon.
